So DeLaRap requested these yesterday… perfect timing. I just recently noticed how few older hip-hop albums we have so I plan to start upping some 80s - late 90s stuff in the very near future. If you don’t recognize Hieroglyphics as the collective (and you take a major L if you don’t) then maybe you’ll recognize names such as Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Opio, A+, or Tajai (not all of the members or associated acts, but those are all of the members who have recently dropped material). Anywho, this group was one of Oaklands biggest acts during the 90s and still remains one of the best to date. I def recommend checking some of the material below for newbs and fans and If you’ve neglected to listen to other material by Hieroglyphics you must def check on their first few studio LPs (as well as on some Souls of Mischief).

I posted the first single from this album a few days ago so here’s the leak of the album. Jean Grae is one of the best (if not the single best) female emcees in the entire game (mainstream and underground alike) as well as one of the best period so support her by copping this one if you’re feeling it. UGHH has a special price on the album so if you like it cop it here.

I’ve never been a big PUTS fan but this album is very dope. Has this good ol’ boom bap feel to it. Definitely a must check for every underground head. Ohh and go support the damn artists if you like the album.

So I’ve been talking about the release of this compilation for sometime now and it’s finally here along with two new members of the CTR team. As those who frequent the site know I did a search for somebody to help with the site since the original members (all of who are still affiliated with the site) have become rather busy with… well, life. Based on responses to several questions we sent out to everyone who showed interest in contributing, the two who’ve been chosen (as of right now) are LedD and Thedude… not familiar names now, but you’ll become accquainted with them in during the next few days, weeks, months and maybe years (If you were not chosen, but opted to participate in the new blog we’re planning on starting, you’ll recieve an email in the next few days… thanks to everyone else). Welcome them here and check the mixtape (pass it around if you like). Tracklist after the jump…

Man, I’ve been a huge fan of Termanology for a some years now and I can’t describe how excited I am about this release. Ever since I heard one of his Hood Politics joints I’ve been a fan of all of his work since then including his first LP (I don’t know why everyone is calling this release his first), Out The Gate. As far as my posts on this blog (Hi, I’m Breezilla) this is not typical of the kind of material I usually drop, but there’s just something about Term. Dude can be grimy and conscious at the same time. He can be ig’nant and spit the most lyrical shit you’ve ever heard. You just don’t know how much I’ve been waiting on this one… for real though, this one is a must cop. Peep it after the jump and go buy this one when you’ve decided Term is the truth. Huge shouts to BeaNTz on Muzik Supremacy for hooking us up with this one.

o as some of you may have noticed, we recently experienced a few hours of downtime while we were upgrading our server. This caused us to lose our old theme, yet we didn’t lose any of our posts or comments. I had to hurry up and throw a theme together, but if you’re not liking the colors, don’t worry… it’s only temporary which is why we’re calling it v1.5. We’ve added a shoutbox (get as us!), and we’ll be adding some other features soon. I’m currently trying to figure out how to get the videos to work again so if anybody has the know how hit us up. A little bit of downtime can’t stop the good music from rolling so check the new People Under The Stairs Mixtape (the pre-lude to Fun DMC, the PUTS LP that’s supposed to drop later this year). Shit’s a one hour long track of that ol’ boom bap… and more.

v2.0 coming soon.

Hosted by the indieground God mixtape DJ, Mick Boogie, Close Doors, Open Windows is personally my first glimpse into the up & coming Ohio group, Fly.Union. I’ve previously listened to some of the tracks from the mixtape on Myspace and peeped the video for Big Trucks, and I must admit this entire mixtape has the possiblity of making it until my ipod. Composed of group members, Jerreau (MC), L.E. (MC), JSwifa (Producer), and Eyeon (Producer), the collective has managed to create an interesting sound in which old school & new school mesh to make something which appeals to the old heads, but is viably radio-friendly. While remaining conscious even on tracks with titles like “Big Trucks” the group always has enough swagger to make you feel like you’re listening to a top 40 radio station. Lil’ Wayne like flows, Cool Kids like production, Kidz in the Hall like lyrics… what a Fly.Union. Peep the video for the “Big Trucks” and d/l the mixtape after the jump.

Dilla + Charles Hamilton. Remixed beats, new lyrics. I’ve been up all night waiting on this joint to drop, so just peep it already. If you’re unfamiliar with Charles Hamilton, all you need to know is down to earth ass producer/MC from Harlem who (at such a young age) is set to change the game for 2009. This is one in a series of mixtape he’s dropping in a very limited amount of time. Right now I’d usually tell you who dude sounds like but, yo, it’s 2:30 in the fucking morning. Just download the motherfucking mixtapes and give shouts to CH here and if you want to hear more of his mixtapes in the ongoing series check out this page for a listing.

Guaranteed this link will be down shortly, so preview it while you can.

It’s been four long years since the release of Crown City Rocker’s debut LP  Earthtones, and while we’ve been patiently waiting for a follow-up to the Oakland crew’s brilliant grade of hip-hop, there’s still no word of a CCR sophomore release. So what are we to do besides replay Earthtones & The Mission EP over and over again until we’ve learned every key and chord? Well Rashaan Ahmad, the frontman & MC of the crew, has the answer. Listen to his long awaited new album, The Push. The album does not have the same ring as what you’d expect from a Crown City Rocker’s album (which is to be expected since there’s no live band backing him this time), but the album is appealing to the golden era & boom-bap sensibilities of your pickiest of heads. Lyrics get an A, production gets an A-. I’m not willing to put money on it quite yet, but with this release of this joint, Rashaan Ahmad may soon be up for a God MC award in the near future. Check the album and if you enjoy it as much as I have, do yourself a favor and buy it here
