New Raashan Ahmad (of Crown City Rockers) release. Should be good.

Some Info From his myspace:

Not an album, not a mixtape , not an E.P.

Thirteen original songs mostly recorded in early 2009.

After touring the United States to promote my first solo album The Push, I discovered that I wanted to add more bangin’ songs to my live set as well as speak on some more topics that I have been dealing with.

Soul Power is the result. When I I say “soul power”, I’m talking about about what gives my soul, my spirit power–which is music!

This project was especially born out of all that I learned being on the road as well as teaming up with new friends I’ve met along the way which led to some dope collaborations!

I definitely have to give thanks to the folks who have made me feel at home while away from home; who have blessed me with food, shelter, ciphers, laughter, conversation, money, memories, general nonsense, and love.

Also mad thanks to the artists who blessed this project with their talent. I’m REALLY proud of this release and for the first time I’m releasing my work independently!

This whole process is my blood sweat and tears (literally) Please support! Lastly check out all the projects coming from my Crown City Rockers crew! Our new album coming in the Fall 2009. Hit me up and let me know what you think.

Peace.

Raashan

Many people regard this album as a classic. The funny thing is that I have never really listened fully through it, so I figured I might as well bump it today and I also figured I might as well post it here too. To those who don’t know Aceyalone is a member of the hip-hop group Freestyle Fellowship, whose early nineties albums To Whom It May Concern and especially Innercity Griots are widely considered as classics. This is Aceyalone’s debut solo album released in 1995. Well, I’ve said enough, now go ahead and listen to it, if you already haven’t. Also this is the original release not the revisited one, despite the cover.

Wadup! I have been away for a while so to all the new readers I’m DMXXX. Anyway to this post. As a person who doesn’t live in the US non-US Hip Hop has always had a kinda special appeal to me. Only when it’s good though. If you are from Australia I suppose you know who Hilltop Hoods are. Matter of fact they’re Australias best selling and one of the most acclaimed hip-hop groups. They’re last album The Hard Road went platinum in a week in Australia. And even though sales don’t really show shit, that definitely is an impressive feat. The fact that they released Hard Road completely rerecorded with ASO(The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra) shows really how much respect this group has in the land down under. It’s a damn shame that despite all that, I bet, that many that are reading this didn’t really know shit about them. Well, I’m here to fix that with their newest album State Of The Art. This album is typical Hilltop Hoods, meaning there’s really not much typical about it. Collabos with ASO, crazy samples and even a guest verse from the almighty Pharoahe Monch are just some of the components that this album consists of. Anyway judge for yourself and peep the album! Video for their lead single for this album after the jump.

New Scholarman album!

from www.soganicmusic.com :

Maryland emcee and producer ScholarMan is geared up to release what is technically his fifth studio album GameShift: The Movement. To some, this number of projects may come as a surprise, but ScholarMan has previously dropped other releases under former name “Scholar.” He re-introduced himself in January of 2007 with his new modified name and sound with the release of “Candy Medicine” and again in 2008 with “Soul Purpose.”

Both of these albums were well-received by a good number in the hip-hop community; many who wanted to hear more, and he answers with a new and even more innovative album GameShift: The Movement. According to ScholarMan, the concept of his new album is simple: positive, forward movement. Everything is shifting, changing; from hip-hop, politics, the economy and more. On this album he is encouraging listeners to join him in the effort to shift the “game” in a more positive direction.

Pretty good album here.  Here’s a little introduction from their myspace:

Disciple: One who has learned to believe in the truth of the doctrine of his teacher and helps to spread that Doctrine to others. The Teacher- Hip Hop Music, The Learner- i-D. The duo met in Colorado Springs, CO. in 2004 through a mutual friend and eventually became members of Four-defied (sounds like Fortified) Sounds, a recording facility and DJ haven on the cities West Side. Ben Bounce, a St. Louis transplant, DJ and Producer. Konflik, the MC and avid beatmaker, quickly recognized each others talents. Although from two completely different backgrounds, they bonded through music and developed a chemistry together. Both recognized what Hip Hop had turned into in the eyes of the masses; A watered down Pop that lost its heart and Soul. Something had to change. After Bounce returned to St. Louis, the two remained in close contact. Both were anxious to get something going. The only problem was the 830 miles of Highway between them. Thanks to dedication, preparation, cellular phones and Emails, the two started making strides. Kon had taken on a job driving trucks coast to coast, and the two had plenty of time to exchange ideas. The Compass was born was born shortly after. The plan was to create an album that would help provide direction to a lost and wandering Hip Hop Nation. It turned into much more. The Compass gives you a look into the inner workings of both artists and the Duo as a whole. By combining elements of Rock, Soul, Folk, Funk and Classical, Ben Bounce invites the listener in. The Golden Age soundtrack provides comfort for ears that they hadn’t heard in some time. Then, clear and concise, Kon assaults the ears with lyricism. In the tradition of the MC, Kon speaks directly to the listener. He takes you on journeys through life, love, politics and science fiction, each time drawing you closer and closer to his world and making you more aware of the world surrounding yourself. Listen, enjoy and believe that Hip Hop is alive and well.

Dope album by Double A.B. Here’s a review from okayplayer.com:

After grinding as a battle rapper for years, New York emcee Double A.B. is putting less emphasis on scathing punchlines and drawing more from personal material. Diesel is a cohesive and vivid Gotham City auditory memoir where just the appearance of certain guest rappers—Cormega, Nature, Vast Aire, among others—invoke grit and restlessness. After grinding as a battle rapper for years, New York emcee Double A.B. is putting less emphasis on scathing punchlines and drawing more from personal material.
