I’ve been thinking about dropping in a regular feature like this for a while, just been so busy with rl and of course WeveGotTheJazz.com so I just haven’t had the time.
Let’s take it back to 1992 bitches. It Was a Good Day is one of those tracks that I can always listen to. No matter what kinda mood I’m in, I always feel good after listening to some vintage Ice Cube. Be on the lookout for more classic singles coming your way from us hoodrats at CheckTheRhime.com!
Ice Cube originally recorded a demo of the track in his home studio and went on to record the album version in Los Angeles at Echo Sound Studios during 1992, and it was one of the first ideas for the album sessions.[1] Ice Cube commented on the concept behind the song stating,
The inspiration was my life at the time … I was at the top of the rap game. It was the summer of ’92 and I was in a hotel room, really in a state of euphoria. I had all the money I had dreamed of. I was in a good frame of mind. And I remember thinking, ‘Okay, there’s been the riots, people know I will deal with that. That’s a given. But I rap all this gangsta stuff — what about all the good days I had?[1]

Peep the jump to download this hip-hop classic. I’ve also included the video from YouTube.
Hosted by the indieground God mixtape DJ, Mick Boogie, Close Doors, Open Windows is personally my first glimpse into the up & coming Ohio group, Fly.Union. I’ve previously listened to some of the tracks from the mixtape on Myspace and peeped the video for Big Trucks, and I must admit this entire mixtape has the possiblity of making it until my ipod. Composed of group members, Jerreau (MC), L.E. (MC), JSwifa (Producer), and Eyeon (Producer), the collective has managed to create an interesting sound in which old school & new school mesh to make something which appeals to the old heads, but is viably radio-friendly. While remaining conscious even on tracks with titles like “Big Trucks” the group always has enough swagger to make you feel like you’re listening to a top 40 radio station. Lil’ Wayne like flows, Cool Kids like production, Kidz in the Hall like lyrics… what a Fly.Union. Peep the video for the “Big Trucks” and d/l the mixtape after the jump.
I’ve had the leak of this album since December ‘07, but I can’t wait for the legit release. Will def be copping that shit. Check the video (and look up the other Johnson&Jonson music video on here or on youtube). Blu murked that shit.
It was recently announced there’s no future plans for a re-union Tribe album, but at least we have Tip’s solo debut to look forward to (dropping later in the Fall). Check Tip’s first single in a long ass 9 years and def. cop the LP when it drops.

I’m starting to feel like Ches about these cats. How did I go so long without having their shit in my collection? You must check the CD version of this joint.
Dope video, dope beats, dope rhymes. If you don’t check out any of the other videos we drop at least peep this one. Excited for Fest’s new album El Che? Yes.
DJ I-Dee hit me up with this one himself. Good production and although I’m not really feeling the video too much the track itself is a hit. JG murders the track and Wreck does his thing too. Peep the video and download the single below.
Hot ass shit. M-Phazes on the beats and DJ Eaze on the cuts. We dropped some of his older shit here on CTR in the past so cop listen if you like the video (always cop legit if you like it) and check back for this new album. Shit’s obviously going to be heat. Shouts to GrapeApe over at MS for bringing this one to my attention.
This is the video to the Premier produced track’Say Goodnight’ on Reks’ album, Grey Hairs. The video came out over a month ago, but I’m an idiot. Grey Hairs has been getting the most play out of any of my albums over the past few weeks. If you’ve been sleeping on the album, you can find it here.
I was chillin at my boys house last night blazin and wandering through the universe that is YouTube, when he showed me the below video.

I was definitely impressed. I wish I could say I hadn’t been sleeping on dude, but I’ll just keep quiet. As I’m typing this I’m making my way through these 2 albums, Scifentology 1 & 2. There are a couple more of his earlier albums floating around that I’ll try and get up if people seem to be interested.
If you don’t want to download the albums, at least check this track.
Heard there was a bit of controversy about the release of JG’s video… anybody heard about that? Also can’t wait for that new Skillz album, The Million Dollar Backpack…
(p.s. I know D posted JG’s album, but if you like what you’re hearing you really need to go out and get it. Just like gimmeadollr I already pre-ordered this joint and if you downloaded it you already know it’s crazy. We waited four long ass years to get a new album out of Jean and I don’t want to wait until 2012 for another so support the artists. That’s the point of the blog, so you can explore new artists and find some dope MCs who you are feeling to a point that you don’t mind dropping 10 dollars in order to support them. Seriously, there’s far to few legit female emcees in the game to make Ms. Grae leave it don’t be a douche and buy it here for 10 dollars. If you only buy one CD a year and you like this one, do cop it).
