Jakki The Motamouth is a fairly unique MC. He’s not always my favourite type of cat to listen to, but I can definitely appreciate most of the shit he spits. The MHz (Camu Tao, Copywrite, Jakki Da Motamouth, Ramble Krohn, Tage Proto, RJD2 on the beats) album is actually fairly slept on, very top notch work. I haven’t listened to the Weathermen (Cage, Camu Tao, Yak Ballz, Copywrite, Vast aire, Tame One, Breeze Brewin, El-P, Jakki Da Motamouth) album, but it involves a buncha flame throwers so it should be more than solid.

the homie bambu’s new album “exact change” finally dropped today! i’ve been waiting for this shit for a long time and now that i’ve finally heard it i can honestly agree with those that say that it’s his best work yet.

first off the production on the album is just filthy! big name producers like illmind, sabzi (blue scholars) and amp live (zion i) come hard but my dude fatgumssteals the show. the chemistry between bambu’s words and fatgums beats is so effective that i hear they have their own EP in the works.

Photobucket

what impressed me the most about “exact change” is bam’s level of maturity and outlook that i haven’t heard on his previous albums, the kind of wisdom that i imagine can only be gained by becoming a father. like my other top emcees (geologic of blue scholars, slug of atmosphere, andre 3000) bambu gets his grown-man on and talks more about setting a good example than offing a pig. don’t trip, bam’s unapologetic political analysis is as sharp as ever but this time it’s more focused and specific…to build and serve a strong community for his seed to grow-up in.

This is for you John Moca (with more to come). Here is an excellent record from Brazilian MC Marcelo D2, À Procura Da Batida Perfeita, or Looking for the Perfect Beat, an Afrika Bambaataa reference, produced by Beastie Boys producer Mario Caldato. It has a really great Brazilian flavor to it with samba infused beats and upbeat tropical lyricism. Unlike many Brazilian MCs, D2 has turned his focus away from gangster life in the favelas and consequently gives us a glimpse of the beach, paradise land of Brazil we dream of through hip hop and samba. Make sure to buy this here.

Our readers definitely know what’s up when it comes to listening to good music. Here’s Soul Positions first album that was requested by gary. Tracklist after the jump. You can cop this release here.

If you peeped the “Unlimited EP” by Soul Position, then there’s little doubt you were highly anticipating the release of “8 Million Stories.” Few things in life are worthy of a perfect 10 (except perhaps J-Lo’s booty) but Soul Position’s last release achieved that rare mark on the strength of Blueprint’s stellar rhymes and RJD2’s fabulous beats. Both have and are perfectly capable of making a mark in hip-hop on their own, but their union formed a hip-hop superduo of stellar abilities whose sole goal was to achieve even greater musical heights together. While underground rap fans fiended for the follow-up like a junkie does smack, Blueprint and RJD2 labored in the studio like chemists until at last they came up with the perfect hit. Without a doubt, unlike Bill Clinton, Soul Position both wants and ENCOURAGES you to “Inhale”:

“I’m willin to take trips into the dark and unknown
corners of your subconcious where the climate’s cold
Use me, to the foolish it’ll never get old
Forget about her thingies and the things you’ve been told
Some people use me as a courtesy for things bought and sold
Let me be an example of how to break the mold
Use me as an innocent, you need to break the hold
Use me ’til I’m gone, use me ’til I’m gone”

Real unique sounding hip-hop / reggae artist outta Sweden. His debut album from 2003 as well as his new one from earlier this year are both fresh to death. As always, don’t sleep people. Sample song for those doubters. A bit of info from his lastfm:

He has already worked with many acts within Swedish hiphop, and been on an almost constant tour throughout Sweden and Europe for the past two years. Swedish MC Chords has made himself quite an impressive reputation among Swedish hiphopers, with his strong punchlines and flowing rhymes.

Chords, or Jens Resch, which is his real name, was born in 1978 in Sweden. He grew up in the realtively small town called Lund, where music became a growing interest at an early age. Being only 14 years old, he started to write his own lyrics as he listened to beats and came up with rhymes to match them. He socialized with people like the wellknown Swedish producer Måns Asplund (Breakmecanix) and by the age of 16, Chords recorded his first songs in the studio.

He was only ten years old then, but was already being influenced and inspired by hiphopers like Run-D.M.C.. Nowdays, you’ll most likely hear old soul classics, hiphop and reagge coming out of his stereo. His passion for music has always been present, although he has both worked and studied other things along the way. He even worked extra at Juju Records, the record label he’s now signed to.

Formely with the duo Chords & Scissors, Chords is now working solo, with guestperformers from wellknown Swedish hiphop artists like Timbuktu and LooptroopPromoe. Chords 12” single, “Idiot Savant” was the first single from his debut album that came out in 2003, and the first release since being signed with Juju Records in 2001.

Tracklists after the jump. Some sick features on his first album, and I might like the second even better.

Got a request for this one from Aleksandar. I’ve personally never checked out Babbletron myself (shame on me), but I’m a huge Cool Calm Pete fan (can’t wait for his 2008 release to drop), so this is probably worth it if you’re into the entire Definitive Jux scene. Thank the savant for this one.
