Eligh’s first artist name was lower m.c. and created the group Boogalu Badboys with his friend Scarub. At this time they were attending Hamilton High School, in Los Angeles. They later changed the name of the group to Urban Instinct. The two later met Murs, also at Hamilton, and together they formed the group 3MG (3 Melancholy Gypsys). 3MG were part of the Log Cabin crew, which eventually broke up, and the Gypsys wandered separately. Eligh met the The Grouch at a party in the Bay Area and became friends. While the two were working on a song, Eligh met Sunspot Jonz, and was asked to join the Living Legends crew. As it turned out, the rest of 3MG also became Living Legends.
Eligh has credited a wide range of musical influences, including: Michael Jackson, Freestyle Fellowship, and Bob Dylan. He is also known as Gandalf, which is his beat-making alter ego.

This album has been playing non-stop for me over the past few weeks after I saw The Grouch perform at ‘Paid Dues.’ I noticed it hasn’t been posted on here so I thought I would throw up the recommendation for anybody that hasn’t gave this a listen yet. MURS released his first single in 1993, taken from a self-released album by his first group, 3 Melancholy Gypsies (aka 3MG). The group became friends with Mystik Journeymen, and joined them in the Living Legends collective in 1996.
MURS appeared as a rapper on more than 20 records, EPs, and singles over a seven-year period, both on releases by 3MG and Living Legends. His debut solo album, The End of the Beginning, was released in the spring of 2003. He also worked with Slug under the name Felt, taking a more experimental approach. A second solo album, Murs 3:16: The 9th Edition, was produced by 9th Wonder. Taking a more thoughtful approach than gangster rappers, the album prompted Andy Gill of The Independent to say “eschewing bogus glamour for emotional realism, Murs manages to say more about the corrosive cancer of hip-hop’s gun culture than all the thousands of column inches lavished on 50 Cent’s bullet wounds”. The track “Walk Like a Man” from that album inspired a film of the same name in which MURS starred along with Damien Wigfall. After another solo album with 9th Wonder, Murray’s Revenge, in 2006, MURS signed a contract with Warner Bros., his debut album for the label being Murs for President.This was preceded by Sweet Lord which was given away free to fans.
Aside from music, MURS is a host of Current TV.

I don’t know much about the history of this album or the producer [Belief] but I stumbled across it and it’s dope. Not too sure why this isn’t around moreso, being that it stars some of underground hip-hop’s most heralded artists (C-Rayz Walz, Vordul Mega, Murs, Wordsworth and AG respectfully). But nevertheless, here it is; enjoy. Solidly dope album here.
What’s in a name? When you have a firm conviction of your own abilities, nothing seems impossible. Like Popeye needs his spinach, musicians need that conviction when they are doing their bid in that tough marriage of art and finance. But if you call yourself Belief, your own label Worker B Records, and your debut “Dedication,” stakes is high.
Belief’s credentials are a treasure every underground producer would cherish. Like most, he started out polishing his craft in his bedroom when he was still in high school. He was fortunate enough to find himself walking the same hallways as ‘beat Gandalf’ Eligh, and the more well-known mischievous mockingbird Murs. Belief moved to New York to further improve his musical skills at NYU, but never lost sight of his West Coast roots. He ended up doing multiple songs for Murs’ Definitive Jux debut “The End Of The Beginning,” but also produced for East Coast underground jewel Jean Grae. With an abstract style with firm roots in funky breaks, Belief wants to make the world believe people should take notice, and dedicate their ears to his Worker B beats.
“Dedication” should be the next step in that direction. The front cover of the promo pressing depicts the bearded Belief, flanked by his own ‘Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ Wordsworth, Vordul Mega, Murs, and C Rayz Walz. With an additional guest spot by Andre The Giant (AG), you have the cream of the crop, perhaps even an underground match made in heaven.

So I’ve been talking about the release of this compilation for sometime now and it’s finally here along with two new members of the CTR team. As those who frequent the site know I did a search for somebody to help with the site since the original members (all of who are still affiliated with the site) have become rather busy with… well, life. Based on responses to several questions we sent out to everyone who showed interest in contributing, the two who’ve been chosen (as of right now) are LedD and Thedude… not familiar names now, but you’ll become accquainted with them in during the next few days, weeks, months and maybe years (If you were not chosen, but opted to participate in the new blog we’re planning on starting, you’ll recieve an email in the next few days… thanks to everyone else). I still haven’t gotten around to checking this joint out for myself (I know, I know), but I’ve surpisingly enough heard only good things about it. I mean, I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s always though Pooh was the weak link in Little Brother (of course he’s improved greatly with each release), so this may be worth it. Whatever the case it’s an LB fan must have as well as Ace recommended. Let me know if it’s worth my time. Features from Murs, Median, Joe Scudda, Phonte, O-Dash, Darien Brockington, & Spectac.
